SCENIC ACRES
When the growing up years of children have come and gone, and the role of parent transitions to an anticipatory one where partners, grandchildren, and resulting family gatherings are waiting on the horizon, a household refresh that can accommodate the quieted, smaller everyday moments as well as the more boisterous group experiences is much needed. This new phase of life inspired our Scenic Acres clients to renovate their existing home.
SIZE – 1735 Sq.Ft
AREA – Whole Home
Designing a central space large enough to support the laughter, conversation, and frenzy of the bigger together-moments was their first priority, in addition to a complete overhaul of their outdated finishes and fixtures. Along with updating the finishes on the main and upper floors, we reworked the kitchen and ensuite layouts and expanded the deck. A small addition provided space for a kitchen island full of storage on the inside, and cleaned up their home’s exterior lines on the outside.
The kitchen and dining areas continued on this theme of quaint hospitality with an added personal touch: their palette grew from the client’s collection of traditional Danish tableware. The result is a pleasingly contemporary yet classic combination of blue and white combined with rich wood tones, reminiscent of evenings spent together around the dining room table waiting for that fresh holiday pie to arrive from the oven topped with melting ice cream.
Although the already functional layout of this space was to remain, millwork, finishes, accessories, even windows were altered to bring the interior from its existing level of dark and dated to bright and contemporary. The resulting ensuite transformation was monochromatic and serene in nature, with subtle textures adding an extra touch of tranquil magic. Overall, this Scenic Acres renovation continues to inspire us with its ease, warmth, and friendliness…. Much like the clients that live within it.
