This older home needed a complete main floor renovation to accommodate a modern and growing family. Our clients wanted to refresh the style of the home while emphasizing a fun and creative look. Being green throughout and improving the home’s indoor air quality were also key factors for our clients. To accomplish this, we removed the asbestos from this 1970s house and used environmentally conscious materials with low volatile organic compounds during the reconstruction and finishing stages. By raising the flooring in the family room area, we were able to create a large, open concept kitchen and living space. Working with our clients’ style, we installed completely new custom millwork in the kitchen to combine traditional elements with unique twists. The result was an elegant but fun space with rich woods coupled with impressive pops of bold colour in the perimeter cabinetry and “bubble” glass tile backsplash. We also added a rolling cart on the end of the island that can stay neatly tucked away or be pulled out for additional counter or craft space. Our clients wanted to highlight their beautiful riverfront backyard view, so we created a wide, clean patio door leading from the dining room to emphasize the outdoor space and infuse the home with natural light. Our clients received a complete main floor renovation to their home that reflected their bold and creative style while remaining environmentally friendly—creating a happy and healthy living space for their family.
