Project Reveal: Woodbine Kitchen Renovation

So often, we are hired by clients who want to update homes built in an era where mid-tone stained oak cabinets were considered the order of the day. For our Woodbine client this dark, U-shaped kitchen was lacking both in function and in aesthetic.

Our client had a clear directive and motivation for the renovation and as a result the new design plan and scope came together quickly.

We opened up the kitchen to the existing back entry way and mudroom space. Some restructuring and a new overhead beam were included in the new design.  Additionally, a new mudroom door with an integrated window allow natural south-facing light to spill directly into the kitchen, instantly making it a brighter, more inviting space.

A larger window replaced the cantilevered bay window. Allowing the new kitchen floor plan to extend into the previous nook area. The client was keen to leverage the previous casual dining space and expand the kitchen footprint to develop a more functional work area.

The hardwood flooring that existed in the dining room was mirrored through the kitchen, streamlining the area. We fabricated custom white cabinetry and combined them with quartz countertops and a glass backsplash that was in keeping with the fresh, bright aesthetic of this remodel.

The long custom kitchen island highlights the length of the kitchen and openness of the space which connects to the dining area. We opted for a cost-efficient butcher block countertop from IKEA to top the island. Butcher block countertops are a great option for both food prep and as a general work surface and in this case happened to be a perfect coordinate for the flooring.

The completed renovation is a refreshing change and so elegant in its simplicity. We absolutely adore the final product. And more importantly so does our client!
